Elovane is operated by Smart Technology Investments (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our solar ROI analysis tools, blog content, and related services at elovane.smarttechinvest.com (“the Service”).

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you use the Elovane calculator, you may provide:

  • Zip code or state
  • Annual electricity consumption (kWh) or monthly bill amount
  • Roof area and orientation (optional)
  • Budget range (optional)
  • Which systems to evaluate (solar, battery, heat pump)
  • Planned years at property

Calculator inputs are used solely to generate your solar ROI analysis. We do not store your calculator inputs on our servers. All calculations are processed in real time and the results are returned directly to your browser. We do not associate calculator inputs with any personal identifier.

When you create an account or purchase API access, you may also provide:

  • Email address (when you create an account)
  • Payment information (processed by Stripe; we do not store card numbers)

Automatically Collected Information

Like most web services, our infrastructure may automatically collect:

  • IP address (for rate limiting and abuse prevention)
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Referring URL

This information is collected through standard web server logs and is used for service operation, security, and aggregate analytics. We do not use this data to identify individual users.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Generate solar, battery, and heat pump ROI calculations based on your inputs
  • Operate and maintain the Service
  • Process payments and manage your account and credit balance
  • Send account-related transactional emails such as signup confirmations, API key delivery, and password reset links
  • Prevent abuse and enforce rate limits
  • Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve the Service
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information only in the following circumstances:

  • Infrastructure providers: The Service is hosted on Cloudflare (API) and Vercel (webapp). These providers process requests as part of normal service operation and are bound by their own privacy policies.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or other legal process.

5. Cookies and Tracking

Elovane does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. We may use essential cookies for:

  • Session management (if applicable)
  • Rate limiting and security

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar third-party analytics services that track users across websites.

6. Data Retention

  • Calculator inputs are not stored beyond the browser session.
  • Account data (email, API keys): retained for the life of your account plus 2 years.
  • Payment records: retained as required by law (typically 7 years).
  • Server logs: retained for up to 30 days for operational purposes and then deleted.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect the Service, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Cloudflare DDoS protection and Web Application Firewall
  • Rate limiting on API endpoints
  • No storage of sensitive personal information

8. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Object to processing or withdraw consent
  • Data portability

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not sell or share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. To submit a CCPA request, email privacy@smarttechinvest.com with “CCPA Request” in the subject line.
